Education
I received my PhD in English, with a graduate certificate in Women's and Gender Studies, from Stony Brook University (SUNY) in 2013. Since then I have taught at several other public universities, including Tennessee Technological University and Texas A&M International University. Currently I teach at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia. Origins I am originally from Maryland, born in Wisconsin to immigrant parents from Poland. I grew up bilingual in Polish and English, and foreign languages have always been a passion of mine. I love to travel and most recently I was able to combine my love of travel with my love of teaching when I led study abroad programs to London in 2017, 2018 & 2019. |
Other Interests & Community Involvement
Aside from my interests in travel, foreign language, creative writing, and women's and gender studies, I have also cultivated a number of hobbies that have influenced me and my work as a teacher-scholar. My interest in the performing arts led me to play Ruth in a community theater production of Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit in January of 2019, directed by a former study abroad student. My involvement in roller derby (see photo above) led me to become a coach in Laredo, Texas, and eventually I published an essay about those experiences with the sport.
My love of crochet helped me get involved in community service projects locally and globally, making hats for orphans in Texas as well as homeless people in India and refugees in Austria. My commitment to public humanities led me to apply for a Texas Humanities Major Projects grant, which I received, allowing me to bring high quality humanities programming to my community in the form of the Cervantes and Shakespeare Festival. I see community service as an inextricable part of personal and professional growth, and I have found that my many interests and projects help me find new ways of connecting with my colleagues, peers, and students.
About my header images:
Homepage: the homepage header is cropped from William Hogarth's "Gin Lane" print and represents my interests in eighteenth-century culture and literature in general. Hogarth's art is an immediate touchstone for many of us who teach and publish on eighteenth-century topics.
Other pages: The other pages on my site are linked by the colorized print of female pirates Anne Bonny and Mary Read whose stories figure prominently in my book Sapphic Crossings.
